Winter hit this weekend and we weren't even expecting it. Over 15 inches in the mountains and a solid 6 inches in the lower country. Winter is a slower time of year in some ways but also monotonous. Daily goals revolve around making sure everything is fed, has access to water that is not frozen and has cover if a storm is on the horizon. The days are short and the nights are long, making those few hours of daylight even more of a rush to fit everything in.
This past weekend we performed a rescue mission. We had two pair (two cows still with their calves) discovered by a neighbor out at the summer pasture. We have no idea how we missed them, but are happy we found them when we did. Using our good ol' portable corrals and a four-wheeler, we were able to capture them in no time and haul them to the winter headquarters where they were met with unlimited feed and fresh water.
My dad always has said how important it is to be a good neighbor and in return hope you have good neighbors. This goes to prove just that. Out here we have to look out for each other and help one another out. In the end, we all have the same goal. To continue living the life we love while providing high quality food, fiber and fuel for the world.
